our current resident creatives
As artists, Nichola and Jenna are deeply passionate about creative exploration through visual arts and literary works. With this in mind, they sought to provide writers the same opportunities to showcase their talents within the zine as visual artists, leading to the creation of the Writer’s Residency program.
Each month, our resident creatives are invited to contribute fresh and innovative work inspired by the current theme. We are excited to announce the addition of Mildred Burchett-Vass, who will join us as our Graphic Novel Reviewer. She will work alongside our current residents, Peter Devonald, our Resident Poet, and Michaela Hall, our Resident Arts Writer.
We encourage you to explore the latest content, and if you’re interested in participating, we welcome you to reach out via our submission form."

Once upon a time I was finishing up my second Master’s Degree in literature and on course to become an academic, but that all changed one Christmas when I was given a sewing machine. I spent Christmas Day learning how to thread it up, and on Boxing Day I made a (wonky) drawstring bag. And ever since that Christmas, my life – and my creative life - has been one of uncertainty, self-doubt, small triumphs, and many, MANY botches, fiddles, and workarounds. I can’t describe my practice here, because I don’t know what it is yet. Perhaps I’ll never know. Perhaps one day I might care that I don’t know. But these days, I do whatever takes my fancy. This year has been about painting huge murals on office walls in acrylic paints while listening to true crime podcasts. Next year might be about micro-crochet, or Portuguese whitework, accompanied by string quartets. Who knows? I make things, I ‘do’ art, I take an interest, all from a compulsion to create. And for now, that compulsion is everything.
