1 - Could you explain your practice? Only you know why you do what you do.

My practice is a multidisciplinary journey that weaves together the tactile art of sculpting with the boundless possibilities of performing art or digital artistry, deeply anchored in Persian heritage and my own life's narrative as a female artist who has lived in patriarchal society and experienced censorship and surveillance.

Through crafting "Poet Poppets," I marry traditional puppet making with storytelling, further expanding these tales into the realm of "Digital Mythos Photography" and animations that deeply engage with themes of identity, migration, and the human condition. Every piece, whether still or moving, opens a door to magical worlds, inviting viewers to explore the line between reality and fantasy.

My passion for storytelling has evolved from puppeteering to sculpting static figures that narrate their own stories, to crafting large-scale interactive installations and recently producing political animations inspired by the Iranian women's revolutionary movement in 2022.

This practice is my contribution to the dialogue facilitated by art, fostering connections, reflections, and a deeper understanding across different cultures and mediums. It offers an immersive experience that not only bridges diverse narratives but also celebrates the shared human experience. Art has been my safe place, helping me through tough times like immigration, anxiety and dealing with postnatal depression. It's always there for me, the one thing that keeps me going no matter what challenges I face.

2 - Is art relevant today?

Absolutely, art remains deeply relevant today. It serves as a mirror to society, reflecting our joys, struggles, and the complexities of the human condition. Art has the power to provoke thought, inspire change, and foster empathy, connecting us across diverse cultures and experiences. In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and significant social transformations, art offers a crucial space for dialogue and understanding. It challenges us to see the world from different perspectives and to appreciate the beauty and richness of diversity. Moreover, art contributes to our well-being, offering solace and a means of expression during times of personal and collective hardship. In essence, art is not just relevant; it is essential to our cultural, emotional, and intellectual lives.

3 – We are always asked what other artists influence us, we want to know what art you don’t like and which influences you?

In terms of art that I find less appealing, it's usually pieces produced primarily to align with current trends, lacking a deeper, personal motivation from the artist. I believe the most impactful art stems from an authentic need to express, challenge, or explore, rather than simply fitting into the prevailing trend. The art that profoundly influences me is that which elicits strong emotional or intellectual responses—art that can provoke deep reflection and questioning. I am especially attracted to works where the artist's skill, dedication, and years of mastery are palpable. This connection to both the message and the meticulous craft of the creator is what I find truly engaging.

4- If you could go back 10-20 years what would you tell your younger self?

Keep pushing forward and trust in your abilities. Don't let negative thoughts, feelings, or people halt your progress. Every small step brings you closer to your goals—never let the fear of failure deter you from trying.

5 – If you could go forward 10-20 years, what do you hope to have done or not done?

I believe our actions and decisions are shaped by our circumstances. Not really sure if I would survive or be able to support my family if I haven’t spent 10 years in media while longing to create more art but I wish there was a way that as an artist/single mum I could dedicate more time to my art without worrying too much!
