Colour is ‘the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way it reflects or emits light.’ Colour is the spectrum of the sunset, the sparkle of glitter, the glare of bright lights, the movement of the ocean. Colour is everything and everywhere. It creates both shared and unique experiences for everybody who encounter it and it brings life, emotion, and personality to the dullest of days.
Often used as an awkward small-talk prompt – “what’s your favourite colour?”. The idea of exploring colour may seem unfulfilling and mundane to some but to others it can mean everything – sentimentality, rhythm, experience, and a sense of self. English art historian John Ruskin once said “The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love colour the most.”
When we use colour as an expression of our thoughts, desires, fears, dreams, and feelings, we invite others to have their own experience and provide a window into a new world, whether this is our own or a completely new and fantastical space. This is something to be truly celebrated – something which is key to this exhibition, a space for all to explore their own and others’ relationship with colour and how it can be used in many ways. Some vibrancy we are all seeking at the start of another new year full of opportunity.

Haus A Rest is an online art magazine and a collaboration between Jenna Fox and Nichola Rodgers. Formed in 2020 to bring artists together in a space that is encouraging and, exciting and promotes discussion. This will be our first live exhibition and we are extremely excited to be running this show across several venues across the country.
This Exhibition is a collection of works by artists from all over the world, that were picked from our open call, they have come together to celebrate, explore, and translate colour in all its forms within art.

A Cosmos of Colour - Opens 28/2/22 until 6/3/22
Come and see the new display in the University library foyer! A Cosmos of Colour by University of Reading art student Jenna Fox (MA Sculpture RCA, PhD year 1).This touring exhibition shows a collection of works by artists from all over the world, picked from an open call, run by www.haus-a-rest.com that celebrates, explores, and translate colour in all its forms within art. The call asked for artists to respond to the theme of colour by creating an A6 postcard. This show is touring the UK and this is the fourth venue - previous shows at The Richmond Gallery Yorkshire, The Art Cafe, Yorkshire, and @new_new_haus_gallery.
