WORLD WOMEN’S MONTH WOMANHOOD by resident poet Peter Devonald

These are two poems that are my celebration of world women’s month --- certainly should be more than just a month, it really needs to be the future (if we are to have one). We need to not so much think outside the box, as crush the box altogether – and realise what we are doing now is poisoning us all. There is no reason for gross inequality, businesses that place profit before people, the bottom line before the environment. Predators in politics, the workplace, and the home have had their day. Now is the time for womanhood.
Womanhood is far more than replacing men with women in the failed old male world order --- it is about finding better new ways that can save our world from environmental and emotional catastrophe. We need to look at every aspect of our life to make them fairer, more equal, and more global. Knowledge of what the country/ world needs are essential to enact real change, and brave decisions that are essential for all our well-being. We must right the wrongs of centuries – self-awareness to know that the time is right for fresh voices and new leaders. The world is crying out for positive change to protect, reform, and repair.
World leaders such as Jacinda Ardern have shown there is a better way: more collaboration, community, communication, and caring. More awareness and understanding. Female leaders can show the strength, power, focus, and audacity that is required to change the world. An understanding of our global village – which we need to get along with or face catastrophe. New ways are the only way for us to have a future -- new leaders not constrained by outdated old-fashioned thinking, who can see the bigger picture and are open to improving it. The answer is so simple and vital, we just have to have the bravery to seize it.
